Lenovo-owned Motorola on Tuesday announced two new special edition handsets under its existing G5 lineup: the Moto G5s and the Moto G5s Plus. Both the smartphones will be available to purchase starting tonight at 11:59 PM. The Moto G5s is priced at Rs 13,999 whereas the G5s Plus is priced at Rs 15,999. Following the launch, Moto cut the price of its previously announced G5 Plus (4GB RAM and 32GB storage variant) down to Rs 14,999.
Specs-wise, the dual-SIM Moto G5 Plus (Review) features a 5.2-inch Full HD (1,920×1,080) AMOLED screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC ticking at 2GHz.
It runs a near-stock UI on top Android Nougat out of the box. Although it’s available in India in two configurations 3GB of RAM with 16GB and 4GB of RAM with 32GB internal storage, the price cut is limited to a higher variant. It has a dedicated memory card slot for storage expansion up to 128GB. During our Moto G5 Plus performance review, we realised that it doesn’t drastically slow down or cause much heating while performing graphics-intensive tasks.
As for photography, the Moto G5 Plus houses a 12MP primary rear shooter with Dual Pixel AF, dual-LED flash, and f/1.7 aperture. The camera is capable of recording 4K videos. Up front, it features a 5MP front-facing shooter with f/2.2 aperture. During our Moto G5 Plus camera review, the phone performed well, and the autofocus turned out to be extremely fast and accurate.
The Moto G5 Plus supports various connectivity options like 4G VoLTE and includes Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The set of supported sensors include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope. The device houses a 3,000mAh non-removable battery with TurboPower charging support. The Moto G5 Plus is available in two colour options: Lunar Grey and Fine Gold.
