Lenovo-owned Motorola has launched two models of the next generation of Moto G series of smartphones at MWC, dubbed the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus.
The design of Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus is quite similar from the front, while the difference is at the back. The smaller G5 gets a removable back panel, although it is metal, whereas the G5 Plus has a metal unibody with a 3000mAh non-removable battery. Both Moto smartphones are splash-proof like the last year’s Moto G4 and G4 Plus.
The Moto G5 features a 5-inch full-HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla glass 3. It is powered by an octa-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 clocked at 1.4GHz coupled with 2GB/ 3GB RAM and 16GB/ 32GB internal storage. It also features the microSD card expansion up to 128GB.
The Moto G5 Plus a slightly bigger 5.2-inch full-HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla glass 3. The G5 Plus doesn’t have Snapdragon 430 SoC, but instead boasts of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625, which is also an octa-core 64-bit processor clocked at 2GHz. It comes in various storage and RAM variants that include – 2GB/ 3GB/ 4GB RAM and 16GB/ 32GB/ 64GB internal storage. Both phones have fingerprint sensors below the display.
The Moto G5 has a 13-megapixel f/2.0 system with phase detect autofocus (PDAF), and the Moto G5 Plus has a 12-megapixel f/1.7 camera with dual-tone LED flash, Dual-Pixel Autofocus and 4K video recording. The G5 camera can only record 1080p videos. Both Moto smartphones have a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with OmniVision OV5695 sensor, f/2.2 aperture for selfies.
The Moto G5 is backed by a 2800mAh battery with Rapid Charging, while the G5 Plus packs a 3000mAh battery with Turbo charging. Both smartphones run Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.
The Moto G5 and G5 Plus will come in Lunar Grey and Fine Gold colour variants. The phones will be made available starting March globally, along with Moto Power Pack Mod separately. The Moto G5 with 2GB RAM is priced at starting 199 Euros, while the 3GB G5 Plus will start for 279 Euros. Lenovo will only release the Moto G5 Plus is the U.S. with pricing starting at $229. Other markets pricing and availability will be announced close to region specific launch time. In India, we expect the two smartphones to come as early as first half of March.
