The Chinese OEM, Xiaomi in July this year launched its latest custom ROM, the MIUI 9 alongside the Mi 5X smartphone. The company earlier announced its plans to upgrade a number of smartphones to Android Nougat but with a gradual release that eventually said to happen in three stages.
The flagship Xiaomi Mi 6 and the popular budget friendly Redmi Note 4 were the first to receive the MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM followed by Mi Mix, Mi Note 2, Mi Max 2, Mi 5 and a couple more Xiaomi handsets in the second batch. Xiaomi has now announced that it is rolling out the Global Beta version to the third and final batch of devices.
The company took to its MIUI forum to reveal the third wave of Xiaomi devices that are now eligible for MIUI 9 Global ROM 7.9.7 update. The final batch of Redmi and Mi smartphones (via XDA Developers) that can now be upgraded to MIUI 9 Global Beta include- Mi 5, Mi Max (32GB), Mi 2/2S, Mi 4, Mi Note, Mi 4i, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S/3X, Redmi 2, Redmi Note 3 (Snapdragon), Redmi Note 3 Special Edition, Redmi 4G, Redmi Note 2, Mi Max Prime, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 4G, Mi Note 2, Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus.
Apart from the global roll out, Xiaomi has also announced a separate China Beta ROM available for select low-end and mid-range handsets in its home market. The company has posted download links for its Global Beta ROM on its official MIUI forum along with instructions on how to upgrade it to the new Global Beta ROM.
As it is a beta ROM, users having eligible Xiaomi devices will need to flash this ROM using fastboot. For those already on Beta ROM, XDA Developers note that they can simply head to the “Updater” application on their supported device, check for the updates. The option once tapped users should see MIUI 9 China Beta ROM v7.9.7 available for download.
