Just a day and Xiaomi will unveil its highly talked Mi 5X smartphone and the 9th iteration of its MIUI. While we have learned that the new MIUI 9 will be based on Android 7.0 Nougat, an official preview of the ‘custom Android skin’ has surfaced giving a fair idea of the new features that will come with the software update.
Xiaomi in its forum post has previewed the following features of the new MIUI 9-
The MUI 9 will feature three new themes- No Boundary, Color Fantasy, Cool Black and a new default theme. Xiaomi in its forum said that the official English names for the new themes have not been settled yet. It is worth noting that in all these new themes the dock icons at the bottom won’t have texts just so to give a neat look to the home screen.
The new user interface will include a new screenshot feature where users by swiping right on the lock screen will be redirected to the commonly used shortcuts such as Mi Home, Mi Remote, Mi Pay and Torch.
The Split screen which initially debuted on the stock Android 7.0 will now be introduced to the MIUI 9. Xiaomi in its forum posted that split screen feature will be released to the following Mi devices- Mi 6, Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Mi Max, Mi Max 2, Mi 5 and Redmi Note 4X. The company said that more information on the list about eligible devices will be unveiled after the launch. Features like Child Mode, WiWide (it provides public wifi networks to stores and restaurants in China), Contact Card, Showtime and more will be removed in order to simplify and optimise MIUI ROM.
The first batch of eligible devices to receive MIUI 9 Beta update are the Mi 6 and Redmi Note 4 Qualcomm/Redmi Note 4X, followed by Mi 2/2S and more in the second batch. Users should keep in note that the release date for MIUI 9 is only for the China ROM and not the global OS version. Xiaomi in the thread noted that some of the ‘Technologies Breakthroughs’ will be revealed in the MIUI 9 launch event. Xiaomi will be launching the skin update along with the Xiaomi Mi 5X on July 26 i.e., tomorrow. The launch is scheduled to start at 14:00 hours (GMT + 8) at the China National Conventional Center.
