Microsoft has been reached out to by the Indian government asking them to offer a one time special discount to Indian consumers. With the help of this discount, many Indian consumers can move to the latest and much secure Windows 10 operating system. Windows 10 will help India better protect themselves against malware and ransomware attacks.

Press Trust of India (PTI) contacted the National Cyber Security Advisor of India Mr. Gulshan Rai and he commented,

“We have asked Microsoft to offer a one-time special pricing, so that people are able to replace their old OS with the latest OS (Windows 10). The response from Microsoft has been positive and they have agreed in-principle”

Though any pricing decisions have not been made, the government wants that Microsoft to provide the operating system to be Rs. 1,000 or less. Mr. Rai added that the government wants the people to be using the latest and the most secure operating system currently being offered by Microsoft due to the recent wave of ransomware attacks. PTI also said that they tried to contact Microsoft, but they did not respond.

Windows 10 Computer

Microsoft currently offers Windows 10 in two variants – Home and Professional for Rs. 8,000, Rs. 13,000 respectively. The majority of Indian computer systems run the Windows operating system from Microsoft, though only a small portion of them are powered by Windows 10.

This new deal if struck will help both the parties equally, as India would be able to get the latest and a much secure operating system for cheap, and for Microsoft, it would help them in growing the Windows 10 users along with helping them in lowering the piracy rate of their operating systems.
