Highlights

    • Dual 13 megapixel rear cameras
    • Powered by Snapdragon 652 and 4GB RAM
    • 128GB Built-in storage

Micromax’s most ambitious venture yet, the Micromax Dual 5 goes on sale today on Flipkart and Micromax’s own web store. Micromax is typically known for making affordable smartphones, so a device with dual rear cameras is bound to stick out from their regular portfolio of smartphones. There’s also the price tag of Rs. 24,999, but we’ll reserve comments on that till we’ve actually used the device, but it does seem that like a departure from the company’s typical price points.

The Micromax Dual 5 has a number of special features that could attribute to the higher than normal price tag. For starters, it is made from a single slab of aircraft grade aluminium so as to be able to offer a premium finish. At its heart, the Dual 5 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 and 4GB of RAM. There’s 128GB of internal storage which can be expanded by use of another 128GB microSD card, but that will eat up the second sim-slot as the Dual 5 sports a hybrid sim slot.

The real highlight of the Micromax Dual 5 happens to be the dual camera setup on the back. The setup is powered by a pair of Sony IMX 258 sensors, that work a lot like Huawei’s setup; with one sensor shooting monochrome and the other in colour. The resolution on the images coming out of this setup is 13 megapixel and the lens has an aperture of f/1.8. On the video front, the duals cameras can shoot video in 3D along with supporting 4K recording. The selfie camera is also a 13 megapixel shooter, using the same Sony IMX258 sensor as the back.

In other specifications, Rs. 24,999 also gets you a fingerprint sensor and USB-C port that’s used by Quick Charge 3 to top up the 3200mAh battery in 45 minutes (according to Micromax). Micromax Dual 5 bears a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) Super AMOLED 2.5D curved display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and a 100 percent NTSC colour gamut. On the software front, the phone is running Android 6.0.1 out of the box as of now.
