Micromax Canvas 1, the latest smartphone by homegrown smartphone maker, is now retailing in India at Rs 6,999. Micromax Canvas 1 arrives right after Canvas 2, which became official in May 2017. The phone falls under affordable (sub Rs 10,000) segment and goes on sale via brick and mortar stores. Ever since Reliance Jio disrupted Indian telecom industry with its free data and voice calling plans, demand for 4G VoLTE-compatible smartphones is on the rise, and Micromax Canvas 1 is no exception.
Micromax Canvas 1 boasts of a polycarbonate unibody, measuring 8.3mm in thickness and weighing 150g. The device comes in two colour options: Matte Black and Chrome Black. It carries a horizontally aligned protruding rear camera unit along with LED flash. Micromax Canvas 1 lacks a fingerprint scanner unlike Xiaomi Redmi 4 (Review), which starts at Rs 6,999. Up front, there is a front-facing LED flash for better selfies in darkness.
Specs-wise, Micromax Canvas 1 sports a 5.0-inch 720p (HD) in cell display with 2.5D curved panel layered on top. Internally, the phone is powered by 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM. The device features 16GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 32GB by means of a microSD. It houses an 8-megapixel autofocus rear shooter and 5-megapixel front shooter for selfies and video calling.
The dual-SIM Micromax Canvas 1 packs a 2,500mAh battery, which is claimed to offer 180 hours of standby time and 7 hours of talktime. The device comes with all the standard set of connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, and microUSB 2.0 port.
