The disruption caused by Reliance Jio’s Happy New Year 2018 plans will continue in the coming week with some new discounts and additional data. A lot of popular Jio prepaid plans will either get a Rs 50 price cut or 50% additional data or more from January 9, 2018.

For starters, Jio Rs 199 plan will be available for purchase at Rs 50 off. As a result, Jio Prime users will benefit from 1GB daily high-speed data, unlimited local, STD and roaming calls and SMS at just Rs 149. The validity of Jio Rs 149 plan remains 28 days. So, customers will end up getting up to 28GB total data along with access to premium apps and services.

Currently, Jio Rs 149 plan offers 4.2GB of data (0.15GB per day) for 28 days. Similarly, Jio Rs 399 and Rs 499 plans can be purchased for Rs 349 and Rs 449 respectively from 9th January. Both plans offer 1GB daily data and unlimited calling and SMS benefits. The former has a validity of 70 days while the latter is valid for 91 days.

If you are not too keen on a Rs 50 discount and would like higher daily data for the original plan price instead, Jio has you covered too.  Jio has announced a bunch of new plan for a rupee lower than their existing tariffs that offer 50% additional daily/monthly data.

For example, Jio Rs 198 plan will offer 1.5GB data per day for 28 days. As a result, Jio customers will end up benefiting from 42 GB data as compared to the current Rs 199 plan that offers 28GB in 28 days. Similarly, you can get 105GB data for 70 days at Rs 398, 126GB data for 84 days at Rs 448 and 136GB data for 91 days at Rs 498. All with a data limit of 1.5GB per day from 9th January.

It appears Jio has taken the recent Airtel Rs 799 blow way too seriously and has retaliated strongly, at least in the 1GB-1.5GB daily data category. With the new changes and discounts, Jio’s existing prepaid plans have undoubtedly become more economical than the competition. Let’s see how Airtel and Vodafone respond to this development. Stay tuned.
