Lenovo India posted a teaser video on social media channels earlier this week, indicating the launch of its next K-series Note phablet. Soon after that, we heard contradictory reports suggesting the company would launch either the K7 Note or K8 Note. Amidst these reports, Lenovo today confirmed that its upcoming K-series phablet will be known as the K8 Note. Apart from the branding, Lenovo has also revealed details about the launch which is scheduled for August 9.
Lenovo’s India team has put several teasers on Facebook in the last couple of days, one amongst which was a mathematical equation that came out to be number ‘8’ upon solving it.
“After a lot of guesses, most of you got it right! We are bringing to you the #LenovoK8Note that will #KillTheOrdinary smartphones & stand way ahead of its competition! Are you ready to see it uncaging on 09.08.17?”, the company posted in its Lenovo India Facebook account.
While Lenovo has decided to name its new K Note phone under the moniker 8, the reason for skipping number 7 remains a mystery. Notably, a listing of the supposed K8 Note phone surfaced just yesterday on Geekbench revealing some key aspects. Based on the listing, the K8 Note will feature a deca-core Helio X20 (MT6797) chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. The phone will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
In the recent teaser video, Lenovo revealed that its upcoming smartphone will see a boost in performance. Lenovo has compared the upcoming K8 Note with two smartphones offering Snapdragon 430 and Snapdragon 625 processors. However, the company is calling these two SoCs to be ordinary. Meaning, the upcoming phablet is likely to offer even better processor, presumably new Snapdragon 630 or Snapdragon 660 chipsets. If the Geekbench listing turns out to be true then the new K-series Note phablet might come in two SoC variants. These are just speculations but we expect more details will be out (in the form of leaks) in the coming weeks.
