The ongoing rivalry between Airtel and Jio had taken a lot of new twists and turns over the weekend. Despite that, Airtel’s Rs 799 plan was beating Jio’s similar offering. A comeback from Jio was imminent, but we didn’t expect it to be so strong so as to would wipe the Airtel Rs 799 plan off the battlefield (at least for now).
Jio Rs 799 plan has managed to capture the crown long held by Airtel, and how! The updated Jio Rs 799 plan now offers benefits like 140GB high-speed data in 28 days with 5GB per day limit, unlimited calls and SMS etc.
Until now, Airtel had a clear winner on their hands with their Rs 799 plan that offered 3.5GB daily data as opposed to Jio’s 3GB daily data plan. Although both the plans were priced similarly and with the exact validity, Airtel managed to offer 14GB more data for the same price and enjoyed the limelight for quite some time. Jio has now raced ahead by bumping their daily data limit straight to 5GB from 3GB which effectively translates to 42GB more data in 28 days than what Airtel Rs 799 plan offered.
It remains to be seen how folks at Airtel deal with this setback and what would be their plan of action from here. For now, Airtel appears to have simply delisted its Rs 799 plan without any prior intimation. But looking at the pattern of this rivalry, you can safely expect Airtel to make a strong comeback with a 5GB daily data plan for Rs 799 or lower in the coming days.
In other news, new Jio offers and discounts are live starting today. Some of the exciting Jio plans include Jio Rs 149 and Rs 198 that offer 1GB and 1.5GB data per day respectively for 28 days. Airtel too has extended the validity and data limit of some of their popular prepaid plans to blunt Jio’s move.
