Just last week, I was at a Jio gallery to check if the new 2018 plans had come into effect; more importantly to see if the store guys were updated about the changes in the Jio prepaid plans from 9th Jan. While I was there, I saw JioPhones selling over the counter without any fuss. Isn’t there a shortage of those online? But that’s a different story.
I couldn’t help overhearing the store executive tell one of the JioPhone buyers to compulsorily opt for the Rs 153 plan to begin with and that the plan offered unlimited calling, SMS and 14GB high-speed data at half a GB per day for 28 days. But wait, didn’t the Jio Rs 149 plan offer 28GB data at 1GB per day for the same duration along with the other benefits? My curiosity got the better of me and I politely walked into the conversation asking the store executive the same question.
Typically, he shrugged and said something to the effect of “What can I do… company policy…”. Looks like the company policy has changed today; well, at least the benefits offered by the Rs 153 plan have. The plan now offers exactly what their own Rs 149 plan brings to the table – namely, unlimited local/STD/roaming calls, 100 SMS per day and 28GB high-speed data with 1GB per day limit for 28 days.
Though it’s better than before, I still don’t see the sense in making JioPhone users pay Rs 4 extra for the same plan, or for that matter, the logic behind having both those plans in play simultaneously with such little price difference. Well, may be it’s just company policy!
