Highlights

    • Reliance Jio Phone pre-booking said to start post-Diwali
    • The exact pre-booking date has not been specified yet
    • The second phase expected to begin once the first round delivery for the phone gets completed

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio in July this year launched its 4G enabled feature phone, the Jio Phone. The company had begun the delivery of the feature phone on September 24. Jio had earlier (via tweet) confirmed that consumers who had pre-booked the device in the first round will be getting it by October 19. The second pre-booking phase for the Jio Phone, however, was suspended. While it was expected to open up soon, a new report has now cited that it will begin post-Diwali.

According to a report PTI, the second phase for pre-booking Jio Phone will resume after Diwali, likely by end of October or in the first week of November. The report notes that around 6 million Jio Phone units were booked within a day and a half when the first booking phase for the 4G-enabled feature phone begun on August 24. PTI earlier reported that the deliveries for the Jio Phone will be first made in rural areas and small towns followed by urban areas later. The publication now says that Reliance Retailers have started delivery of the 4G feature phone from Navratri festival.
The shipments started in metro cities from Saturday. The target is to complete all shipments around Diwali,” a channel partner told PTI.

To recall, the 4G-enabled Jio Phone was launched at the Reliance Annual General Meeting on July 21. Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani at the launch announced that the phone will be made available to consumers at an effective cost of Rs. 0, however, users will have to pay a one-time refundable deposit of Rs. 1,500. The amount will be refunded after three years when users return the phone. However, the refund for the phone carries along certain conditions. To get the refund amount, users need to spend at least Rs. 1,500 on recharges every year. They are required to use the device actively post its delivery. In case the conditions are not met, the company might ask to return the handset, forfeit the refund, and levy the applicable taxes, notes PTI.

If the Jio Phone second pre-booking starts after Diwali, users can pre-book it both via offline and online channels. Interested consumers can visit Reliance Digital stores or retail partners. They can also check online either on MyJio app or head to Jio official website, Jio.com.
