Instagram in beta started rolling ‘Two-Factor Authentication’ about an year ago to selected users, but now this feature seems to be rolling out to everyone.

Earlier today we also received this new feature, however it didn’t require any app update, which means it’ll rollout gradually to users account.

How to enable Instagram ‘Two-Factor Authentication’ feature?

To enable the ‘Two-Factor Authentication’ feature, you need to go to your Instagram settings and scroll down to see the option under the Account section.

  • Open Instagram
  • Click on bottom right corner (your profile photo or icon)
  • Click on three dots on Top right corner

Now tap on ‘Two-Factor Authentication’ option and enter your phone number to receive the code.

  • Tap on ‘Two-Factor Authentication’
  • Toggle ON ‘Require Security Code’
  • Tap to ‘Add Number’

Once you have 2FA enabled for your Instagram account and you try signing in to your account on a new device then you’ll receive an SMS with a 6-digit code to get access.

Instagram automatically generates about 5 backup codes, in case you lose access to your phone number and cannot receive security OTP by text. You can save or note down these numbers to regain the access of your account again.
