Samsung Gear Sport smartwatch has been announced at Samsung IFA 2017 press event in Berlin, as anticipated before. One of the key attractions of the Gear Sport smartwatch has to be its ability to control Samsung IoT-enabled devices through Samsung Connect. Furthermore, the watch also acts as a remote control, and some of its applications include controlling Samsung Gear VR headset and PowerPoint presentation. Given that it supports NFC, users can play with a flick of the wrist by means of Samsung Pay.
The Samsung Gear Sport has a 1.2-inch 360 x 360 pixels rounded Super AMOLED always-on screen featuring 302 ppi pixel density and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The smartwatch is running on a 1GHz quad-core SoC and 768MB of RAM. It comes with 4GB of internal storage and runs Samsung Tizen OS. In spite of all that, the device is compatible with all the Android smartphones that run Android 4.4 KitKat or later. The watch is also compatible with the range of Apple products like iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 6S, 6s Plus, SE1, and iPhone 5 running iOS 9.0 or later.
Much like the Gear Fit 2 Pro smart band, the Gear Sport has 5ATM water resistance capabilities, so that it can be submerged 50 meters. It also boasts of a MIL STD 810G military grade certification for added durability. Design-wise, it measures 42.9 x 44.6 x 11.6mm and weighs 50g without a band. In terms of connectivity, the watch supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and NFC. Furthermore, the set of supported sensors include Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate, Ambient Light, Barometer.
The Samsung Gear Sport smartwatch packs a 300mAh Li-ion battery under the hood that supports wireless charging. The watch comes in two colour options: Blue and Black. Samsung did not reveal details with regards to its price during the event. However, the Gear Sport smartwatch price is expected to be 350 euros (approximately Rs 26,650). Shipping starts October 2017 in Europe.
