Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone to increase and retain their current subscriber base have been offering people cashback on purchase of new smartphones. In a bid to do the same, Idea Cellular on Thursday announced that it will be offering Rs 2,000 as cashback to users when they purchase a new 4G smartphone.
Unlike other telecom providers which provide cashback on select smartphones, Idea Cellular will be providing the cashback on any new 4G smartphone of the customers choosing. Additionally, this offer is valid for both, prepaid and the postpaid subscribers.
“The primary barrier for 4G adoption has been 4G handset affordability. The focus is on upgrading the customer to 4G by making 4G handsets more affordable,”
said Sashi Shankar, chief marketing officer, Idea Cellular
Prepaid subscribers who wish to avail this offer will have to continue recharging their smartphone with Rs 199 or more every month for the first 18 months to be eligible for a cashback of Rs 750. After that they would have to continue doing the same for the next 18 months to get the rest of the cashback. So you are locked into Idea Cellular for a total of three years to get the whole cashback.
For the postpaid users who want to avail the offer, they need to first enrol into Idea’s Nirvana voice combo plans which start at Rs 389 per month for a total of 36 months to be eligible for the cashback.
The cashback offer from Idea Cellular is valid until April 30. As of now, we don’t know how Idea will credit the cashback to the eligible users, whether it will be in the form of a recharge, or Idea money, or something else. We will share this information with you as soon as we have some clarity on it.
