HTC expanding its U-series portfolio has unveiled the new HTC U11 Life. The company has launched the smartphone for a price of $349 (roughly Rs. 22,600). The HTC U11 Life is the first Android One smartphone from the Taiwanese tech company. However, HTC has introduced one more version that will come with HTC proprietary Sense skin layered on top of Android 7.1 Nougat. The Android One variant meanwhile ships with Google’s latest Android 8.0 Oreo right away.
The mid-range U11 Life looks like a trimmed down version of the flagship smartphone HTC U11, if you go by the design language and specification list. The smartphone inhibits the liquid surface design much like other U-series devices. It has glossy front and rear panel with metal chassis surrounding it. The back panel is built out of acrylic glass that is said to be sculpted using a method of ‘layering highly-refractive materials’.
The front black panel has 1080×1920 pixel resolution stretched across a 5.2-inch Super LCD display. The HTC U11 Life has IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. HTC has incorporated the Edge Sense technology on the U11 Life as well. The Edge Sense will enable users to squeeze the metal frame on both sides at the bottom half to perform certain actions like- taking a screenshot, opening the Google Assistant, launching the camera app and more. The fingerprint sensor is embedded on the front.
The handset is powered by Qualcomm mobile platform Snapdragon 630 paired with either 3GB (for North America) or 4GB (global version) of RAM. Internal storage is at 32GB (3GB RAM) and 64GB (4GB RAM) and it has support for expandable storage. As far as optics are concerned, the U11 Life features a 16-megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus (PDAF), f/2.0 aperture and LED flash module. The primary camera is capable of recording 4K videos. Up front, it packs a 16-megapixel sensor with same aperture and it can record full HD videos.
The phone has a battery backup of the 2600mAh and comes with Power & Extreme power saving mode. HTC has removed the standard 3.5mm audio jack on the new U11 Life in favour of USonic earbuds. Connectivity options on the phone include- 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Type-C port for charging, nano SIM support, GPS, A-GPS and GLONASS. The HTC U11 Life Sense version is available for purchase starting today for a price of $349 (roughly Rs. 22,600). Pricing and availability of the Android One variant will vary depending on regions. The U11 Life with Sense UI will have one colour choice- Sapphire Blue while the Android One model will have a Brilliant Black colour option.
