After a month HTC’s second flagship has finally made its way to India. The Taiwanese tech company has launched the new HTC U11 at an event in New Delhi today. HTC has announced the new flagship at a premium price of Rs. 51,990.
The big highlight of the HTC U11 smartphone is its ‘Edge Sense’ technology that enables the user to squeeze the device to perform certain functions. The pressure sensors on the edges of the phone respond when the user squeezes the metal frame (bottom half). The feature works like a “convenience key” and let the user customise actions such as launching Google Assistant, camera, flashlight, or send text messages. The squeeze feature works even with the gloves put on or if the phone is under water. Talking about under water functionality, the HTC U11 has water and dust resistance IP67 rating. Moreover, the new member of the ‘U’ family features a glossy liquid surface design similar to the premium HTC U Ultra that was launched earlier this year. The glossy back panel changes colour when reflected to light and it rather gives an aesthetic appeal.
In terms of specifications, the HTC U11 features a 5.5-inch Quad HD (1440×2560 resolution) Super LCD display coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. The phone is powered by a 2.45GHz quad Snapdragon 835 processor. The device was initially introduced in two storage variants- 4GB RAM/64GB storage for the US users, and 6GB of RAM/128GB onboard storage for international markets. HTC has brought the 128GB storage variant in India. The storage can be further expanded up to 2TB via microSD card. The fingerprint sensor is embedded underneath the home button.
As for the optics, the HTC U11 gets a 12-megapixel rear camera with 1.4µm pixel, optical image stabilisation, BSI sensor, f/1.7 aperture, dual-LED flash, and 4K video recording. The camera software on the phone include Panorama, HDR Boost, Pro mode, RAW format support, slow-motion, and Hyperlapse as well. In the front, the HTC U11 has a high- resolution 16-megapixel front facing camera that can record full HD(1080p) video and comes with Selfie Panorama mode.
The HTC U11 runs Android 7.1 Nougat with HTC Sense skin layered on top. It carries a 3000mAh battery and supports Quick Charge 3.0 and two different power saving modes. The new flagship supports Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa (in certain regions). The HTC U11 is Hi-Res Audio certified and has “3D audio recording” capability with four microphones. It also comes with HTC USonic headphones with active noise cancellation and HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi edition. HTC has done away with the standard 3.5mm audio jack on its new flagship phone. However, the company is offering a 3.5mm jack with USB Type-C adapter. Connectivity options on the HTC U11 include- dual-SIM support, USB 3.1 Type-C port, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4GHz & 5GHz).
As mentioned, the HTC U11 is priced in India at Rs. 51,990. Notably, the smartphone was first launched in Europe at a starting price of EUR 749 (around Rs. 53,000) and $749 (roughly Rs. 48,000) in the US. The phone will be made available in Amazing Silver, Sapphire Blue, Brilliant Black, Ice White and Solar Red.
The all new HTC U11 will be made available for purchase by the end of June.
