    • HTC is reportedly planning to bring its new flagship in mid of April.
    • The alleged HTC U is tipped to feature touch sensitive frame.
    • The smartphone is expected to latest HTC Sense 9 based Android 7.1 Nougat.

HTC streamlined its new smartphone HTC U Ultra in a bid to sustain in a very fiercely competitive smartphone industry. The company, even after bringing some nifty features in the new smartphone, did not justify the pricing that the company tagged on the device.

However, the Taiwanese electronics company seems to have a better handset under in its labs that might come close on the heels of the anticipated flagship Samsung Galaxy S8. According to the professional tipster Evan Blass of VentureBeat, HTC will soon expand its ‘U’ lineup with a new flagship. The new smartphone will bring something called ‘Ocean’, which was just a concept but its now set to turn into reality. Blass said that the device won’t use the codename ‘Ocean’ but instead continue to retail ‘simply’ as HTC U suggesting it to be the third handset in the HTC ‘U’ lineup after HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play.

The marquee feature of the alleged HTC U is the embedded sensor on the metal frame of the phone. The ‘innovative input method’ under the moniker Edge Sense will allow the user to touch gestures to control different actions. Blass back in September last year leaked a video that showed off the ‘Ocean’ concept with a handset utilising touch-sensitive bezels to launch apps, squeeze and swipe on either edge.

Besides the ‘touch-sensitive frame’, the alleged HTC U is expected to feature a 5.5-inch WQHD (2560×1440 resolution) display, and next generation system-on-chip Snapdragon 835. The new smartphone is said to utilize the same camera resolution found on the HTC U Ultra with 12-megapixel Sony IMX362 sensor on the rear and a 16-megapixel Sony IMX351 sensor on the front. The device will be skinned with the company’s latest HTC UI, Sense 9. The alleged HTC U will run Android 7.1 Nougat and come with 64GB/128GB storage and a microSD slot.

As the tech company is struggling with its rival Samsung, and the South Korean tech giant is already accused of hoarding the supply of Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, the alleged HTC U smartphone is said to debut after the Galaxy S8 launch. According to Blass, HTC will unleash its new flagship sometime late in April this year.
