We have some bad news for Honor 8 users. A tweet from Honor India suggests that the Honor 8 may not be updated to the latest Android 8.0 Oreo.
An Honor 8 user tweeted out to the company asking why the Honor 8 was still stuck on EMUI 5 when the company has released EMUI 8. To which, Honor India responded by saying that the Honor 8 wouldn’t be getting Android 8.0 Oreo due to hardware and software constraints.
we can understand your concern. However, we regret to inform you that Honor 8 is not compatible for Android Oreo update due to hardware and software limitations. We always work for our customers and we are really glad to have you as an Honor customer. Inconvenience is regretted.

Honor India posted another tweet in which it stated that the device will still keep on receiving security updates when necessary. The tweet also mentions that they will take the feedback regarding Oreo on Honor 8 into consideration, which might mean that there is still a slight chance of Honor 8 receiving Android 8.0 Oreo update.
sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. We would like to inform you that Honor 8 will get security patch update, when required. Further, we have taken your valuable feedback regarding the Oreo update for Honor 8. Kindly stay tuned with us for more information.

There could be two possibilities – First, Honor doesn’t want to invest any further resources in development of the Honor 8 smartphone. Second, the Kirin950 chipset is holding back the update, which could also mean that the Huawei Mate 8 and the Honor V8 will also not be receiving the update, as they are powered by the same chipset.
The Honor 6X users will have to wait a bit more as Honor is still evaluating if the device will be getting the update or not.
