Huawei sub-brand Honor launched a new phone in India: the Honor 8 Pro. The smartphone will be available to purchase exclusively on Amazon at the price of Rs 29,999. However, the phone comes in multiple colour options such as Blue, Black, and Gold. The device will go on open sale starting July 13. The unique selling point of Honor 8 Pro has to be 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. The Honor 8 Pro has an edge over OnePlus 5 (Review) since the latter lacks a memory card support for storage expansion.
The Honor 8 Pro boasts of a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display featuring 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Protection on top of it. Internally, there is a 2.4GHz Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 960 octa-core processor in addition to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. The dual-SIM phone runs Emotion UI 5.1 on top of Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The device houses a dual rear camera unit (12MP + 12MP) supporting Autofocus and LED flash, similar to recently unveiled Honor 9 and last year’s Honor 8 (Review).
One of the sensors is monochrome whereas the second sensor deals with wide aperture photography and video. Up front, there is an 8MP front shooter for selfies. In terms of connectivity, the Honor 8 Pro comes with dual-band Wi-Fi, Type-C USB 2.0, microSD, and 3.5mm headphone jack. The standard set of sensors includes Hall sensor, Infrared, Proximity, Ambient Light, Digital Compass, Gravity, and Gyroscope. The Honor 8 Pro is based on a 4,000mAh battery. The phone offers support for Vulcan API for better 3D and graphics experience.
Looks wise, the Honor 8 Pro flaunts a unibody metal design. The device features 6.97 mm in thickness, which undoubtedly falls on the slimmer side. Furthermore, it weighs 184 g, which is considerable given that a 4,000mAh battery is packed inside the smartphone. Honor has placed a fingerprint scanner on the rear side of the device that sits below the dual camera unit. As mentioned earlier, the Honor 8 Pro is likely to compete with OnePlus 5, which is priced at Rs 32,999 for 6GB RAM + 64GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. Interestingly, the Honor 8 Pro has doubled the storage to beat OnePlus 5 up front. As a result, the Honor 8 Pro is capable of offering 256GB of storage (128GB internal + 128GB external) as opposed to 128GB non-expandable storage in OnePlus 5.
Honor also launched the Band 3 during the launch, which is claimed to last 30 days on a single charge. The Honor Band 3 holds water resistance capability and can be submerged in water up to 50 metres. The company did not mention price and availability details of Honor Band 3.
