“When in doubt, wear Red.” – Bill Blass
Following in Oppo, OnePlus and Xiaomi’s footsteps, Huawei sub-brand Honor is the latest brand to jump on to the red smartphones bandwagon. The company just announced a limited edition red variant of Honor 7X in India. The handset will soon be up for grabs exclusively on Amazon India.
The Honor 6X successor is currently available in Black, Gold and Blue variants. The announcement about its red variant is hardly surprising since every other smartphone brand is obsessed with red these days, and Honor is simply trying to be more inline with the current trend.
But why are brands suddenly obsessed with red? And I’ve started to wonder whether it’s really a trend or just some superstition. Whatever it maybe, but there’s been a pattern. If you watch carefully, only one important handset each (from the company’s perspective at least) has gotten a red variant so far i.e., Oppo F5, Xiaomi Mi A1, OnePlus 5T and now Honor 7X.
A recent Counterpoint research goes to show that Huawei tops Chinese smartphone market in Q4 2017, followed by Oppo and Vivo. So, it’s pretty obvious that Huawei may have some strategies in mind to woo the Indian audience too. A red Honor 7Xcould be one of them.
It also ignites another level of competition between Honor 7X and Xiaomi Mi A1. And a new, good-looking variant may help Honor climb up the ladder a bit. I must confess that most of these red variants are quite striking and do grab attention (in a good way).
Honor 7X sports a 5.93-inch Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) screen with minimum bezels. It’s powered by a Kirin 659 octa-core chip with Mali 830 MP2 graphics along with 4GB of RAM. It comes in two options: 32GB and 64GB storage. It runs Android 7.0 Nougat with EMUI 5.1 on top. The device houses a dual rear camera and single selfie camera.
