HMD Global, Nokia’s affiliate is all set to bring a new Nokia-branded handset to India next week. The Finnish company has started sending press invites for a smartphone launch event that is scheduled to take place on October 31. The HMD Global Save the Date invite reads, “HMD Global invites you to an exclusive gathering to unveil the next milestone for Nokia phones.”
While the invite barely gives any hint as what to expect at the event, it could likely be the Nokia 7 that was recently launched in China. Reports speculate that the upcoming smartphone could be the rumoured Nokia 2 which is tipped to be a budget offering from the company’s smartphone inventory. The heavily rumoured Nokia 2 recently emerged on an e-commerce site. The device was listed by US retailer B&H that revealed the price details. As per the listing, the Nokia 2 might come for a price of $99 (around Rs. 6,500).
Coming to the Nokia 7, it is partially a trimmed down version of the flagship model, Nokia 8. The smartphone features a 5.2-inch full HD (1080×1920 resolution) LCD display with Gorilla Glass protection. It is built out of a single block of 7000 series aluminium. Talking about the software, it runs Android 7.1.1 OS out-of-the-box. It is fueled by Qualcomm’s mobile platform, Snapdragon 630 SoC paired with either 4GB of RAM or 6GB RAM. Internal storage is at 64GB which is further expandable via microSD card. All of these is backed by a 3000 non-removable battery.
As for the optics, it comes with a 16MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and dual-tone LED flash. Up front, it has a 5MP camera with f/2.0 aperture. The primary camera offers the Bothie camera feature that was introduced on the Nokia 8. It also comes with ‘Dual-Sight’ mode that utilises both front and rear camera simultaneously.
The all new Nokia 7 is be priced in China starting at CNY 2,499 (approximately Rs. 24,500) for the 4GB RAM variant and CNY 2,699 (approximately Rs. 26,500) for the 6GB RAM variant. It will be available for purchase in the country starting October 24, i.e., today.
