HMD Global makes Nokia camera app available on Google Play Store

Uploading the app on the Play Store makes it much easier for the manufacturers to provide updates than OTA updates

HMD Global the parent company of Nokia has gone ahead and uploaded the custom Nokia Camera app on the Google Play Store. The company has named the app ‘Camera’. However, it is currently only compatible with Nokia smartphones. Currently, The Nokia 5, Nokia 6, and the Nokia 3 support the app, out of which only the low-end Nokia 3 is available for sale in India. Both the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 will go on sale during this month.

On the Play Store, the description of the app read “Camera application for Nokia phones”. HMD Global has also added three screenshots in the app description, the first one is an image being captured by the rear camera, in the second screenshot the video mode has been shown, and lastly, in the third image settings of the camera can be seen.

You have to keep in mind that this is just a custom camera app designed by Nokia for its smartphones. The app doesn’t offer any image editing capabilities or effects. Uploading the app on the Play Store makes it much easier for the manufacturers to provide updates than Over-The-Air updates (OTA).

Currently, the version of Nokia’s camera app is 6.0080.07 which brings software fixes and improvements. And due to the app being available on the Google Play Store Nokia will be able to update the app much faster as it would not have to update whole of the operating system on the device via an OTA update.
