Audiobooks are now available for purchase in 45 countries and 9 languages on Google Play Store including India. Interested users can now purchase their favourite audiobooks via the Play Store and instruct Google Assistant to read them aloud.
According to Google, all users need to do is long press the home button to wake Assistant and simply say “Ok Google, read my book.” Let me make it very clear to our readers that we are yet to try this feature out ourselves.
Audiobooks are available on many platforms such as Android, iOS, Chromecast, Android Wear, Android Auto and the web. They are also compatible with all the eligible Google Assistant-supported devices like Google Home smart speakers.
Some of its features include an ability to listen to audiobooks without a subscription, continue reading across multiple platforms and more. There is no subscription model (as of now). Google Play users can buy a single audiobook without binding themselves into a subscription, contract or commitment of any sort. They can also listen to free previews of audiobooks before making the final purchase.
Say “Ok Google, read my book” and continue listening to any of your audiobooks hands-free with the help of Google Assistant on your phone or Google Home speaker. You can also say “Ok Google, who is the author?” or set a timer by saying “Ok Google, stop playing in 20 minutes.” This association between Google Assistant and audiobooks is limited to Android phones and smart speakers globally in English though.
You can pick up where you left off across all your devices, as long as you are signed in with the same Google account and connected to the internet.
