Google recently announced two new smartphones, Pixel & Pixel XL. Taking over from the Nexus brand and presenting the phones as its new flagship models, Google has layered some exclusive features into Android Nougat for the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. Focusing on the ‘premium phone segment’ the company aims at a market primarily dominated by Apple and Samsung over the past few years.
Here’s all the new features exclusive to Android 7.1 Nougat for the Google’s flagship smartphones.
Google Pixel and Pixel XL are the first smartphones that supports Google’s virtual reality platform, Daydream. With this feature the user will be able to play virtual reality games and watch video apps like YouTube, Netflix, HBO etc. The users however, will be needing the new ‘Daydream headset’ to have an immersive 3D experience.
Google’s new smart assistant is an answer to Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa. Google Assistant uses natural voice commands like the Google Now, but the new personal assistant is more advance than the Google Now voice assistant. Google Assistant can make sense of what’s happening on the device, help users to sort their schedule and tasks and launch third-party apps like WhatsApp or OpenTable conveniently.
Google has replaced the app drawer, instead the user can now swipe up from the bottom dock of apps to scroll all apps and games on the device. The unique home screen designed by Google comes with Google’s G logo which is pitched in the top left corner of the screen.
Google’s Pixel camera is considered as one of the major selling point for the new flagship smartphones. Touting it as the ‘best smartphone camera ever’ by the company, the camera does have some features better than the old Nexus camera app. A new “smart burst” mode which is said to use artificial intelligence choses the clearest and best image out of a series of shots. The camera also uses HDR+ by default with “zero shutter lag”. The camera app also has Electronic Image Stabilisation 2.0, pro features like Exposure compensation, AE/AF locking, white balance presets and viewfinder grid modes.
Other exclusive features for the Google Pixel and Pixel XL include-unlimited original quality photos and 4K videos back-up on Google cloud, phone and chat support, screen share functionality, quick switch adapter for wired setup from Android or iPhone and Sensor Hub processor. Furthermore, there will be some cosmetic changes to the OS that includes wallpaper picker, dynamic calendar date icon and solid navbar icons for the Assistant. Features like night light, background updates, fingerprint scanner swipe function, Daydream VR mode which are announced for the new Pixel smartphones will be available for the devices with Android Nougat 7.1 update as well.
Google’s premium flagship smartphones will be available for pre-order on Flipkart in India from October 13. Google Pixel is priced at Rs 57,000 while the Google Pixel XL comes for a price of Rs 67,000.
