With the launch of ‘Made by Google’ Pixel smartphones back in October last year, the Mountain View Company brought a whole new design to the flagships’ home screen-the Pixel Launcher. The new launcher presented a revamped Google search “pill” widget on the left side of the screen and a weather and data widget on the right. Now, words are floating on the e-hub that a new layout of the Pixel Launcher has started appearing on some Google Pixel devices.
As reported by 9to5Google, the new version of the Pixel Launcher ditches the unique weather and date widget for a more conventional search bar. The Google widget now turns into a full search bar, stretching the width of the screen that looks more or less like the Google’s traditional search bar. The redesigned search bar now comes with rounded edges instead of the rectangular shape.
Notably one of the user on Reddit (via Android Headlines) mentioned that the new design of the Pixel Launcher occurred after restoring from the Android 7.1.2 Nougat beta build to the stable version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Perhaps some of the Pixel owners might like the redesigned search bar as many Android users prefer simplified search tools and foray adding more apps to their device just to make it more handy.
For those who own a Google Pixel or the Pixel XL smartphone and haven’t seen any change on their home screen, they can get the new Launcher design by simply going to the Pixel settings menu> ‘Apps’> Pixel Launcher. Once the Pixel Launcher opens, clear the data in the app and the “pill” shaped widget will get replaced with the newly designed Search bar. however, there is a catch to it, once the data is cleared it wipes out the home screen layouts on the device.
