Google is one of the only smartphone manufacturers in the world that doesn’t like to disclose the number of devices they have sold. Similar is the case of the Pixel smartphone lineup. However, the Play Store gives us a pretty good idea regarding the sales of the devices.
The Google Play Store gives us a rough idea as to how many times an app has been installed. The Pixel launcher which is exclusive only to the Google Pixel and Pixel XL devices just crossed the 5,00,000 – 10,00,000 downloads which means that Google has now sold more than one million Pixel smartphones.
Moreover, the Google Play Store only counts one download per device and does not update on how many times a single phone downloads an app. Even if the device is wiped and then the app is downloaded the counter will not update. The number of downloads of the Pixel launcher downloads should reflect the number of Google Pixel and Pixel XL downloads as the Play Store version of the Pixel launcher does not support the Pixel C tablet.
This new download counter update on the Play Store for the Pixel launcher app, showcases that Google has sold a million units of the Google Pixel and the Pixel XL smartphones, which though not being bad, does not match up to the big smartphone players like Samsung and Apple who sell 40 to 50 million devices in a quarter. Though, the next Pixel which is rumoured to be manufactured by LG might change the device’s fortunes, and make it into a formidable rival.
