Google has confirmed guaranteed software update for Google Pixel and Pixel XL till 2018. The company has made the affirmation in a Google support page. The page reads,” Pixel phones get Android version updates for at least 2 years from when the device became available on the Google Store. After 2 years, we can’t guarantee additional updates.” The Pixel owners who have purchased the smartphones directly from Google Store will receive the updates within two weeks.  The update however, will take time to reach devices which are brought from mobile carriers or other brick and mortar stores.

As for the security updates, Google will be rolling out the updates on regular basis and this will be automatically downloaded on the device. As per Google support page, the new Google Pixel smartphones will get security patches ‘for at least 3 years from when the device first became available, or at least 18 months from when the Google Store last sold the device, whichever is longer.’

Google Pixel and Pixel XL the new ‘Made by Google’ smartphones come with Google Assistant built-in. Featuring a 12.3-megapixel primary camera, the company claims that the phones have scored the highest on DXO Mark (89). Although the Pixel and Pixel XL have similar specifications, the phones differ in terms of screen size and battery capacity. Google Pixel comes with a 5-inch full HD display while Google Pixel XL features a 5.5-inch QHD display. Both the smartphones come with the new Pixel launcher.

In terms of design, both the devices have an aluminum and glass body. The smartphones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and 4GB RAM paired with 32/128GB internal storage. Google Pixel and Pixel XL feature pixel imprint fingerprint sensor and support USB type-C port. Pixel is backed by a 2,770 mAh battery while the Pixel XL house a bigger 3,450 mAh battery. The smartphones feature 3.5mm jack for headphones as well.

Available for pre-order in Flipkart, Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL comes only in the ‘Quite Black’ variant for now. The ‘Very Silver’ and ‘Really Blue’ colour variant are not available in India yet. The 32GB version of Google Pixel comes for a price of Rs 57,000 while the 128GB variant costs Rs 66,000. Google Pixel XL 32GB variant is available for Rs 67,000 and Rs 76,000 for the 128GB version.
