Sony has unwrapped two new smartphones under its Xperia XA-series – Sony Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra at CES 2018. The handsets will be released starting February. However, the company has not shared details regarding price yet. The highlights of the new Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra are that they ship with Google’s latest Android 8.0 Oreo and are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC. Further, both the handsets now sport a circular-shaped fingerprint sensor at the back making it a first from Sony’s smartphone inventory to boast this feature.
Sony Xperia XA2 specifications
The all-new Sony Xperia XA2 features a 5.5-inch full HD display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. The display comes with Image Enhance technology and Corning Gorilla Glass protection on top. It is powered by an octa-core 14nm Snapdragon 630 processor clocked at 2.2GHz paired with Adreno 508 GPU for graphics. The dual-SIM Xperia XA2 comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage with expandable storage support of up to 256GB using microSD card. On the optics front, the phone offers a 23MP rear camera with Exmos RS sensor, hybrid-auto focus, f/2.0 aperture and 84-degree wide-angle-lens. At the front, it has an 8MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture and 120-degree super wide-angle lens. The Xperia XA2 packs a 3300mAh battery and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, Qnovo Adaptive charging.
The Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra, successor to the last year’s XA2 Ultra, features a big 6-inch 1080p display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. This time around Sony has integrated dual camera sensors on the new XA2 Ultra (a little too late to bring this feature) up front.
The phone features Dual-Selfie camera packing a 16MP primary unit with OIS and an 8MP secondary unit with a wide-angle-lens. Like the XA2, the phone has 14nm Snapdragon 630 mobile platform with Adreno 508 GPU. It has 4GB RAM and will come in 2 storage variants – 32GB and 64GB, both expandable further by 256GB using microSD card. At the back, it sports a 23MP 1/2.3-inch Exmos RS sensor with hybrid-auto focus, aperture f/2.0 and 84-degree wide-angle-lens. The XA2 Ultra packs a slightly big 3580mAh battery and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, Qnovo Adaptive charging.
Sony has offered four colour options for the new Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 – Ultra-Silver, Black, Blue and Pink. Both the handsets support 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5, GPS and USB Type-C port for charging. There is no news yet about its India pricing or availability.
