OnePlus at CES 2018 has made its first official announcement about its next smartphone, which might be called OnePlus 6 in all likelihood. OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau in an interview with CNET said that the next OnePlus smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset, putting it in the company of Samsung Galaxy S9 lineup also to be powered by this SoC.
He also said that the company is eyeing to launch the device in June 2018. However, he wasn’t 100 percent sure if OnePlus will sell a second iteration of the smartphone like the OnePlus 3T and 5T this year. Though he revealed which processor the device will use, Pete Lau was careful enough not to give away the name of the device.
In the interview, he also said that this year will also mark the start of company’s talks with telecom operators in the US for partnerships that people will get to see later this year. In 2017, we saw the company launch the OnePlus 5, the 5T, 5T Midnight Black, 5T Star Wars Limited Edition, 5T Lava Red, and finally the 5T Sandstone White (the last one technically launched in 2018).
Currently, only one feature of the OnePlus 6 has been confirmed. Rest of the details still remain a mystery which will get uncovered in the coming months in the form of rumours and leaks. Vivo, one of OnePlus’s sister company unveiled the world’s first smartphone to feature an on-display fingerprint sensor at CES 2018, which would be a neat feature to have in the OnePlus 6 as well.
