State-owned telecom BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) has introduced its new Chaukka-444 plan that offer users unlimited data for 90 days. The Special Tariff Voucher (STV) is a promotional offer that is currently available only to prepaid mobile customers. The new offer is a follow-up of BSNL’s unlimited data offer ‘Triple ACE’ special tariff voucher of Rs. 333 that gave customers 3GB of data per day. The company claims to have received a successful response with the ‘Triple ACE’ scheme.
Under BSNL’s Chauka-444 plan prepaid users will be able to avail unlimited data over 3G for 90 days capped at 4GB per day. This special tariff voucher will be valid for 90 days from the date of recharge. Reports claim that ‘under the scheme’, 1GB of 3G mobile data will cost less than a rupee.
“We are committed to providing affordable and efficient services to all segment of our mobile customers. We offer best prices to our customers considering the present trend of Indian telecom industry,” R.K.Mittal, Director (CM) BSNL Board said in a press statement.
Although BSNL’sChaukka-444 plan is said to be ‘highest per day data limit’ offering, compared to mobile data plans offered by other telecom operators, the special promotional offer seems to look good on paper, but let’s also take a look at what other operators are offering at a similar price point.
Reliance Jio Rs. 309 prepaid plan
Reliance Jio’s Rs. 309 prepaid Jio Prime offer gives free voice, unlimited 4G data at 1GB per day limit, and unlimited SMS on the first recharge. Subsequent recharges made with Rs. 309 plan gives the same offer for a validity of 28 days. BSNL’s new offer, however, is providing 4GB data per day at 3G speed instead of at 4G speed. Also, the BSNL plan has 6 extra days of validity over Reliance Jio.
Airtel Rs. 449 prepaid plan
Airtel’s Rs. 449 prepaid plan will give users 1GB of 4G data per day with validity of 70 days. Prepaid users will also get 300 free STD/local calls per day. For users who have a 3G handset, this plan will offer the same data and call caps, but the validity drops to 35 days instead.
Idea Rs. 396 prepaid plan
Idea’s Rs. 396 prepaid plan is providing 70GB of data and unlimited calls with a validity of 70 days. This scheme offers 1GB data per day at 3G speed for 70 days. The unlimited calls however are only restricted to other Idea users. The calls made to other networks have a limit to 3000 minutes for the whole validity, with limits of 300 minutes a day, and 1,200 minutes a week. Interestingly, Idea Cellular has not promoted this Rs. 396 recharge pack via SMSs. Consumers who want to check whether this offer is available on their number will have to call customer care.
Vodafone Rs.445 prepaid plan
Vodafone’s prepaid Rs. 445 plan will give users 1GB of 3G/4G data per day with a validity of 84 days. The company offers 300 minutes of daily calling for free to any number within India. Similar to Airtel’s plan, the validity of these offerings is 84 days if you are using a 4G handset, but drops to 35 days in case you are still using a 3G handset.
For anyone who is already using a 4G enabled handset, Airtel’s Rs. 449 prepaid plan would be a better deal, 3G mobile phones users meanwhile can opt for BSNL’s Chaukka-444 plan.
