Taiwanese smartphone maker Asus could launch the Zenfone AR (ZS571KL) in India soon. The company has started sending out ‘Block Your Date’ emails to an event scheduled for July 13 in India. Although the invite does not offer any concrete details, the email reads “push the boundaries of your imagination.” The Asus Zenfone AR, which was first introduced at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas earlier this year, is a Daydream-ready and Project Tango-enabled smartphone.
In case you have no idea what Project Tango is, it is Google’s own Augmented Reality platform that enables users to interact with virtual objects augmented on their phone. Daydream, on the other hand, is a Virtual Reality ecosystem. As for specifications, the Asus Zenfone AR flaunts a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution along with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection layered on top.
Powering the smartphone is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz and Adreno 530 GPU for graphics. Inside are 8GB of RAM and 128GB of non-expandable storage. The dual-SIM phone runs Android Nougat based software out of the box. It carries a fingerprint scanner up front, which is embedded on the home button. The Asus Zenfone AR measures 8.9mm in thickness and weighs 170 grams.
The device houses a 23-megapixel rear camera in addition to depth-sensing and motion tracking cameras. The camera is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps. The primary camera module is further backed by a dual-tone LED flash. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and screen flash. The 4G-enabled phone packs in a 3,300mAh battery with Quick Charge support in addition to USB Type-C, dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth 4.2.
