Taiwanese smartphone maker Asus has geared up to announce their upcoming Zenfone series at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 at Barcelona later this month. The company also made an announcement on Twitter and their official website, confirming that the launch event has been scheduled for 27th February 2018.
Going by the event slug and everything else on their official website, it’s called Zenfone 5, and that’s exactly what’s confusing here. Didn’t Asus launch Zenfone 5 way back in 2014? In fact, it was among their first few Zenfone smartphones ever. Going by the artwork for the event, it seems even Asus acknowledges the fact that they are using the Zenfone 5 moniker again. The tag reads – Back to 5.
Similar was the perplexity last year when Asus announced Zenfone 4 to the world, and it seems like this confusion may remain intact for another year if Asus announces Zenfone 6 in the future. Asus’ pricing strategy has been off the mark in recent times. Let’s hope the new Zenfone 5 price tag is as attractive as its namesake.
Nothing much is known about Asus Zenfone 5 at the time of this writing. However, as per hints dropped by Asus on their official website, the primary focus of Zenfone 5 remains on photography, courtesy of a dual-camera flagship smartphone. But like everything else, we are expecting more details as the launch nears.
This is probably the first time Asus has decided to reveal its upcoming Zenfone lineup at MWC. As per media reports, the list shall consist of Asus Zenfone 5, Zenfone 5 Lite and Zenfone 5 Max. These devices are expected to be more in line with current trends like bezel-less display, Android 8.0 Oreo operating system and more.
Last month at CES, Asus offered glimpse of its 2018’s lineup of Windows 10 consumer laptops and all-in-one (AiO) PCs at CES 2018. The company showcased the upcoming ZenBook 13 (UX331UAL) and ASUS X507 laptops, in addition to Vivo AiO V272 and AiO V222 PCs.
