Apple on Friday unveiled new emoji characters that will be arriving to iOS 11.1 soon. The beta version of iOS 11.1 will include hundreds of new emoji characters based on Unicode 10. Apple says that the new emoji are designed to reveal every detail and adapted from approved characters in Unicode 10.
The Cupertino tech company is showcasing over 30 of its ‘new designs’ including a couple emojis that were previewed on World Emoji Day.
“iOS 11.1 will also include characters announced on World Emoji Day like Woman with Headscarf, Bearded Person, Breastfeeding, Zombie, Person in Lotus Position and new food items such as Sandwich and Coconut. Also included in the update is the Love-You Gesture, designed after the “I love you” hand sign in American Sign Language,” Apple said in a press statement.
The Verge points out that Android Oreo already has equivalent characters, although a majority of Android users are yet to play with this emojis given that only a small percent of devices are running the new Android OS version.
Coming to the Apple’s new set of emojis, it includes a giraffe, a hedgehog, a zebra in the animal section. It also includes trenchcoat, baseball cap, gloves, orange heart, vampire, woman zombie, fairy, T-Rex and more. There are gender neutral characters in various skin tones and smiley faces with lot more expression. For foodies, Apple has added a Chinese takeout box emoji, pie, dumpling, fortune cookie, sandwich and more.
Apple says that the new emoji will mark its way next to iOS 11.1 beta 2 for developers and public beta testers next week. The software update is expected to roll out for all users by the end of the month. Apple in its press statement mentioned that the emoji will be available in upcoming softwares for iOS, macOS and watchOS. Reports suggest that the new emoji characters might also make its appearance in watchOS 4.1 beta 2 and macOS 10.13.1 beta 2 next week.
