The red-hot news from Apple (pardon the pun) is not just about the new shade of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. In a rather discreet announcement, Apple has announced a new iPad with 9.7 inch display, complete with new hardware and a relatively affordable price tag. Essentially, it replaces the iPad Air 2, and is set to go on sale very soon.
In terms of updates, the new iPad now features a Retina display, which essentially is a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels on the 9.7 inch IPS LCD display panel. On the inside, the new iPad gets the well-proven 64-bit A9 chip, which also powers the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Apple also has the newer A10 chip, which runs on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, but it may not have used it on the new iPad to keep prices down.
To make use of the new processor, Apple has thrown in software goodies in the form of iOS 10.3, split screen multitasking and other handy apps. The new 9.7 inch iPad also gets TouchID on it, for an added layer of security. The WiFi+Cellular model will also support 4G LTE, and a new Apple SIM feature, which will be supported in 140 countries, is also going to be available with the new iPad.
The new 9.7 inch iPad also gets a few camera upgrades – an 8-megapixel primary camera and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera for Facetime, and the occasional selfies.
The new iPad will be available in colour options like silver, gold, and space grey, and Apple will also sell Polyurethane Smart Covers for this iPad. These covers will cost Rs 3,700 and will be available in charcoal grey, white, midnight blue, pink sand and (RED) at Apple Authorised Resellers.
The new 9.7 inch iPad starts at Rs 28,900, for the 32GB and Wi-Fi-only option, while the 32GB Wi-Fi+Cellular variant will be priced at Rs 39,900.
