A new report from iGeneration points to the fact that Apple might be working on a newer version of the iPhone SE. The report also stated that Apple is looking to debut the phone in August. The Apple iPhone SE is the company’s most affordable iPhone the company sells. This new second generation smartphone will cost less than the previous generation. According to the leak, it might be priced at €399 (or approx Rs 29,517) which would be a considerable reduction from the price of €489 (or approx Rs 36,239) for the current model. A new version of the smaller smartphone sounds very exciting, however, there are a number of reasons to be sceptical of this report.
The first reason to be apprehensive is the fact that even iGeneration says that this leak comes from a new source, meaning there is an obvious lack of a credible track record. Second, Apple has never launched an iPhone in August and there is very little reason for believing that they will break such a tradition. Lastly, this is the first leak for 4-inch iPhone we have come across this year. If you follow leaks closely, typically a smartphone gets almost entirely revealed through these sketchy means before they are officially announced. It is highly unlikely that with just a month to go for the alleged “launch”, we are getting our first leak just now.
The Apple iPhone SE was a link between the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6S as it came in the body of the iPhone 5S and brought the hardware of iPhone 6S inside. Apple also gave it a minor upgrade this year, by doubling the internal storage the phone came with. Now the base variant comes with 32GB and the high-end variant comes with 128GB.
Apple India has been pushing hard on the iPhone SE since it started assembling it in Bengaluru. Currently, the phone can be found for as low as Rs. 23,000 for the 32GB variant. Previously there have also been reports that Apple might not continue the iPhone SE and it was only a one time wonder.
Apple is also being rumoured to launch the iPhone 7S, iPhone 7S Plus along with the iPhone 8 in September. However, Apple might delay the iPhone 8 due to technical difficulties stated a report.
