Airtel has entered into a partnership with Hotstar, wherein it will provide its Airtel TV users with bulk of Hotstar’s content though not all. This deal gives Airtel TV users access to movies, TV shows and live sports from 22 channels across Star India’s network in nine languages, all for free under a promotional scheme which will last until June. This partnership doesn’t include most of Hotstar’s English content including – HBO, Disney, Showtime and Star’s own English channels.
“We are delighted to have Hotstar onboard as a long-term partner in our endeavour to build a world-class digital content ecosystem, their rich content library will add immense value to our content play and add to the user experience,”
Sameer Batra, CEO Wynk, Airtel’s entertainment subsidiary said in a statement.
After this partnership, Airtel claims to have over 350 channels available in total which also includes 35 HD channels. Additionally, Airtel now also offers 10,000 movies and TV shows on demand.
Airtel recently has been working really hard on improving its television set-top box services. They launched a fully redesigned User Interface last year, after which they offered users getting the Airtel TV set-top box a full year of Amazon Prime service for free. They also have partnerships with Eros Now, Hooq and Sony Liv among a few others for content.
“Airtel has among the widest consumer footprints in India and with our expansive content library, comprising rich programming that can cater across age groups, geographies and interests, there are natural synergies and we are very excited about this partnership,”
said Ajit Mohan, CEO Hotstar.
