Highlights

    • Airtel offers 1GB data per day for 28 days at the price of Rs 199
    • Jio, in comparision, offers 20% more plus a few extras

Reliance Jio’s biggest rival Airtel has silently upgraded its existing Rs 199 prepaid plan to compete with the latest Jio Rs 199 plan. The move comes right after Jio recently announced two Happy New Year 2018 plans with some crazy benefits like never before, i.e. 1.2GB data per day for 28 days and more.

The all-new Airtel Rs 199 prepaid plan offers total 28GB data with a validity of 28 days with the daily FUP of 1GB high-speed 4G data. In addition, it provides unlimited local, STD and roaming calls along with 100 SMS per day.

How Airtel Rs 199 plan compares with Jio Rs 199 plan

Jio Rs 199 plan offers up to 33.6GB data for 28 days, which has to be the cheapest plan to do so. It provides 1.2GB high-speed 4G data per day. Upon hitting the FUP, the speed will come down to 128kbps. Unlike Airtel Rs 199, Jio Rs 199 plan bundles unlimited SMS and access to premium Jio apps and services.

Local, STD and roaming calls remain unrestricted like always on this Airtel plan but it still can’t be a winner since Jio offers more for the same price. However, with the addition of extra 27GB data, the Airtel Rs 199 plan is now far more competitive than what it was when it offered just 1GB data for 28 days. Though it doesn’t give Airtel a win over Jio, this should at least help them prevent their customers from jumping over to other networks as the gap between benefits has been narrowed down significantly.

The competition between Airtel and Jio will be more fierce in the coming days and we are expecting Airtel to add more benefits to its existing plans, purely to come closer to what Jio has managed to offer.

Vodafone, on the other hand, recently updated their Rs 198 plan, which now offers 1GB data per day for 28 days in addition to free calls and daily 100 SMS, just like Airtel.
