Airtel for some time has been rumoured of developing a phone to rival the JioPhone launched recently by Reliance Jio. The JioPhone runs on KaiOS and allows users to use a few features of smartphones on a feature phone. A new report by 91mobiles suggests that the Airtel is working on an Android-based smartphone which will be priced at under Rs. 2,000. The report also suggests that the device will run on Google’s Android Nougat operating system. If this report is to be believed then this alleged smartphone will also be able to run all the latest apps available on the Google Play Store including WhatsApp which still has to come over to the JioPhone.
The report citing sources within the company states that Airtel is having an aggressive approach for the launch of this alleged smartphone, and will be launching it in the first week of October. The company is aiming to start selling the device before Diwali.
As per the report, the device will sport a 4-inch display and will feature 1GB of RAM. It will be backed by a 1,600mAh battery. It is also being said that the device will feature cameras on both the front and the back.
As of now, we don’t have any confirmation from the company regarding the device, so we recommend that you take this news with a pinch of salt. However, if the company actually manages to release this smartphone along with a few good tariff plans, then it might give extremely tough competition to the JioPhone.
