Airtel has partnered with Karbonn for the second time to launch two new affordable 4G smartphones. These smartphones will go up against the highly popular JioPhone. The company on Thursday launched the Karbonn A1 Indian and the Karbonn A41 Indian. These devices have been launched under Airtel’s “Mera Pehla Smartphone” initiative.

The Karbonn A1 Indian and the A41 Power cost Rs. 4,390 and Rs. 4,290 respectively. However, according to Airtel, they will come with an effective price of Rs. 1,799 for the A1 Indian and Rs. 1,849 for the A41 Power. The catch here is the user will have to keep recharging with minimum Rs 169 for 36 months. If users refuse to opt for recharges, they’ll end up paying the full price.

Customers can pay Rs 3,299 and Rs 3,349 up front for Karbonn A1 Indian and A41 Power respectively. Additionally, to get the promised cashback, customers need to opt for minimum Rs 169 recharges for up to 36 months. The customers will get Rs 500 cashback after first 18 months. Post that, they need to pay for the recharges for another 18 months to avail further refund of Rs. 1,000.

Airtel in the press note stated, “The ownership of the smartphone is completely with the customer and there is no need to return the device to Airtel/Karbonn at any point to claim the cash benefit.”

Both the smartphones come with similar specifications. They sport a 4-inch WVGA display, the Karbonn A1 Indian is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core processor, whereas the Karbonn A41 Power is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor, both the devices run on Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, they come with 1GB of RAM along with 8GB of internal storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD card, VoLTE support, the Karbonn A1 Indian is backed by a 1500mAh battery, whereas the Karbonn A41 Power is backed by a 2300mAh battery.

As for the camera, the Karbonn A1 Indian sports 3.2-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front camera and the Karbonn A41 Power sports a 2-megapixel rear and a 0.3-megapixel front camera.

Both these devices will be available online via Amazon India starting next week. These will also be available in the Airtel stores.
