Design & Build7.9
The design of Xiaomi Redmi 4A is most inspired from company’s own Mi 4i and can be classified as quite ‘neat & clean’ looking device. The polycarbonate uni-body of the device doesn’t feel cheap and with a price tag of Rs. 5,999, it is worth anyone’s money. It comes in three colour options – Gray, Gold and Rose Gold.
The Redmi 4A handset body measures 139.9 x 70.4 x 8.5mm and this makes it very easy to grip. The compact form factor also helps in one hand operation, which means you can practically use all features of the phone without using another hand.
The matte finished back doesn’t attract fingerprints or gets smudged, however the front is slightly glossy. It features a 5-inch 720p display upfront, but there is no added Gorilla Glass or Dragontrail protection for the screen. Having said that, we didn’t find feel the display to be that delicate too as it did survive 2-3 accidental drops during our review time, although we recommend you to get a screen protector all the time, because the little scratches are going to be an issue ofcourse.
About the ports and cameras, you can access SIM tray from left edge. The Redmi 4A gets dual Hybrid SIM tray as it is a uni-body smartphone, which means the back panel is non-removable and so is the battery. In Hybrid SIM slot, you can either put in two Nano-SIM cards at once or one Nano-SIM card in slot 1 and a microSD card in Slot 2. The right edges has volume rocker and power buttons.
The top edge features an IR blaster (infrared sensor) along with the 3.5mm headphone jack and this feature is extremely useful. You can use your phone as remote control for managing almost everything (TVs, DTH, DVD players and ACs) with Xiaomi’s Mi Remote app or any universal remote control app.
The bottom edge features a micro-USB port and the primary microphone. The port also supports USB-OTG.
Coming to the rear panel of Redmi 4A, it features 13-megapixel primary camera with single LED flash on the top left corner. The loudspeaker grills is located on bottom center of back panel.
Overall the Xiaomi Redmi 4A is a neat looking smartphone which is quite compact, lightweight, and doesn’t slip out of hands.
