One thing that Carl Pei didn’t speak about at the global launch of the company’s flagship phone was the audio quality aspect. This, however, does not mean that the company has not worked on it. In our experience, the call and audio quality on the OnePlus 5 has noticeably improved in comparison to its predecessor.
Instead of talking about the speakerphone and earpiece separately, we’ll just get it out there that both are loud enough to be used even in noisy environments. We’ve taken calls while standing at a busy intersection and while the person on the other end of the line did complain about the noise, both the earpiece and the speakerphone were loud enough for us to hear that complaint loud and clear.
Watching videos or playing music on the OnePlus 5’s speaker also left us might impressed. The tiny mono speaker at the bottom of the phone is rather loud. You can easily watch a Youtube video without having to stress about cupping the bottom of the phone for louder sound. Yes, you could do that, but its nice to have a phone where the sound output is naturally loud enough, without sacrificing the quality of it.
