Google phones are nothing new, but Google this year decided to kill off its ever-popular Nexus line and introduced the new Pixel phones. There’s a stark difference between the two, with Nexus mostly being someone else’s hardware running Google’s stock Android. The Pixel phones have been manufactured under strict supervision by Google and in a bid to compete with the iPhone, the Pixel phones come packed with the latest hardware, an industry leading camera and a flavour of Android that is unique to Pixel. Branching off from being a reference phone to a premium flagship, Google’s hardware sure has come a long way.

OUR VERDICT

The Google Pixel XL is an excellent rebirth of the Mountain View company as a hardware brand. The phone scores high on every aspect that you could consider important. The phone’s Snapdragon 821 CPU paired with 4GB RAM runs the most demanding of games without any glitches, switches between MS Word and Powerpoint without any lag, open PDFs and go between multiple browser tabs without having to worry about performance issues. The Google Pixel XL does pack one of the best cameras in the market for now, but the oversaturated display tends to oversell the images as seen on the phone. If the phone had a way of tweaking the display properties like the Sony Xperia XZ, things would have been a lot better. Regardless of the minor hiccup, the Google Pixel XL is every bit the flagship the company had intended it to be.
